INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Primary Schools Eastern Championship

Records tumbled on the opening day of the INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Primary Schools Eastern Championship at the Stadium East facility on Wednesday, as up to press time, five records were established.

Mickoloy Saunders of Lyssons Primary broke the first record in the boys’ 800m clocking 2:35.94, well below the previous mark of 2:39.83 set last year by his schoolmate Yohance Carty.

Camron Fraser of Lawrence Tavern was second in the heat in 2:28.37 and was also below the previous record. Both Saunders and Fraser will clash again in the finals.

The impressive Romeann Gray of Seaside Primary in Portland smashed the girls’ 800 open winning heat one in 2:31.51 well inside last year’s mark of 2:36.57 set by Christassia Pearce of Lyssons. Deanakay Pinnock of St Patrick’s was the next best clocking 2:42.90 in winning heat three.

Lyssons broke the third record winning their heat of the girls’ 4x200m relay in 1:50.74 erasing Harbour View 2023 record of 1:54.87. In fact, Harbour View also dipped below the previous record clocking 1:52.35 in winning heat three.

Lyssons returned and broke the boy’s 4×200 record stopping the clock at 1:45.80, well below the old mark of 1:51.80 set by St Jude’s last year.

The fifth record belonged to Shemika Dobbs of Windward Road winning the girls’ Class 4 60 in 9.17 seconds, removing Sunjai KirkPatrick of Alpha from the record books.

The three-day Eastern Championship continues on Thursday with 10 finals.

St Thomas’ Lyssons are the defending champions and they are looking good qualifying a number of athletes to the finals.
